Sound Trainee

The Sound Trainee is the entry-level Sound role. Works under the Second Assistant Sound learning kit, cabling, and on-set sound discipline.

What the role does

• Preps + breaks down sound kit at start + end of day
• Manages cable runs under supervision
• Observes the First Assistant Sound (Boom Operator) boom operation and Production Sound Mixer desk work
• Supports the broader department on shoot-day logistics

Position

Reports to Second Assistant Sound.

Career progression

SI Competency Framework Level 1 — New Entrant. Path: Trainee → Second Assistant Sound → First Assistant Sound (Boom Operator) → Production Sound Mixer.
