2nd Assistant Director (2nd AD)

The 2nd AD is the senior support to the 1st Assistant Director (1st AD). Where the 1st AD runs the set, the 2nd AD runs the cast, the call sheet preparation, and the AD team's daily output. Typically the principal contact for principal cast on a day-to-day basis.

What the role does

• Produces the call sheet day-to-day in coordination with the 1st AD
• Manages principal cast logistics — call times, on-set readiness, transport coordination
• Supervises 3rd Assistant Director (3rd AD) and Trainee AD activities
• Coordinates with Extras Coordinator on background performer logistics
• Tracks shoot-day timing and feeds variance back to the 1st AD + Production
• Manages daily paperwork flowing from the AD department — sides, schedule revisions

Position

Reports to 1st Assistant Director (1st AD). Supervises 3rd Assistant Director (3rd AD), Trainee AD, and works alongside Extras Coordinator.
