Draughtsperson

The Draughtsperson produces the technical drawings that turn the Production Designer's concepts into buildable plans. Uses CAD (commonly AutoCAD, SketchUp, Vectorworks) to produce the precise documentation Construction works from.

What the role does

• Produces plans, elevations, sections for set builds
• Develops detail drawings for complex set elements
• Updates drawings through revisions as the design evolves
• Coordinates with Art Director on technical questions
• Supports Junior Draughtsperson

Position

Reports to Art Director in the drawing office.

Career progression

SI Competency Framework Level 3 — Experienced. Path: Junior Draughtsperson → Draughtsperson → Assistant Art Director → Art Director.
